Founded in 1945, ANICA is the association which represents the cinema and audio-visual industry.

Paolo Ferrari has been president since 2006. Within the Federazione Sistema Cultura Italia ANICA is a member of Confindustria (Confederaton of Italian Industry) and is active in political and trade union representation and in relations with all players involved in cinema promotion and communication in Italy and abroad.

The association is divided into sections: producers, distributors and technical industries (printing and development, acting studios, equipment hire, audio and video post-production and transport). ANEM, the association of multiplex cinema operators is an associate of ANICA.

As the representative of the Academy Awards in Italy, ANICA selects the Italian candidate for the Oscar for the best foreign film. It is also a founding partner of the David di Donatello award.

ANICA belongs to the world federation of cinema production associations – FIAPF , to the federation of cinema distributors association – FIAD – to the Association for the International Collective Management of Audiovisual Works – AGICOA - and via the MEDIA Desk Italia represents the European Union’s MEDIA programme in Italy.

 

ACTIVITY:

Starting from 2006, ANICA, as the representative of the entire sector, has strengthened its role as negotiating partner with the institutions. Alongside a consolidated dialogue with the Ministry for Cultural Affairs, an intense and fruitful relationship has been established with the Ministry of Communications, in particular regarding the debate on the reform of the cinema and audio-visual sector and the identification of measures to combat audio-visual piracy.

Since 2006, ANICA, together with API, the Association of Independent Authors and Producers, has represented the national cinema production industry in negotiations with SKY regarding the satellite broadcast rights for Italian films.

In 2007, ANICA, SIAE, APT began to promote the creation of a national agency for International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) registration to establish in Italy the only international system for audio-visual identification. ISAN ITALIA will start from January 2009.

From January 2008 a Branch Office of Anica has been opened in Milan to extend the presence of the Association on the domestic territory.

In 2008 ANICA and API are promoting an info-point for the application of the Italian law on Tax Shelter and Tax Credit.
